Dear Singaporeans,
Little Fish is calling for a boycott on The Temasek Review, The Temasek Times and Temasek Review. An Opposition supporter by the name of Sgc Ommoner is currently leading the boycott charge. From what I see, he claims TTR/ TTT and TR are fakes. The original TR Facebook is called TR Emeritus. This clearly explains why these fake websites and Facebook pages have been propagandizing political lies, misinformation to public and worst of all, the source of xenophobia originated from there. I have been collecting evidences and pointing them out on my blog.
Please refer to my latest post here: Anti-foreigner sentiments stirred up again on social media
Temasek Review started the problem at Hougang Stadium on 20 May by posting up a distasteful picture with captions of Pinoys and Indian nationals. One of the Pinay female reader saw it and scolded back. Then 'The Temasek Review' conveniently shifted the blame to WP supporters and accused them of starting the problem. After the diversion, they continued to stir up anti-foreigner sentiments among the public. I believe they have triggered the enraged public to perform a CSI or 'Witch-hunt' on a Pinay lady. The online lynch mobs are targeting her any minute now.
As a Singaporean, I am totally embarrassed by these behaviors online in cyberspace. If we don't stop these immediately, it may trigger more serious social problems in future.
There is another group pushing for a boycott is called Every Day Party. You guys may check them out if you doubt me. I have attached the links above for your convenience.
Together we can end xenophobia. We can eliminate xenophobia together by terminating the source of its origins. Let's boycott it. Singaporeans are never xenophobic to begin with till these bad websites/ Facebook Pages appeared. They played with your minds, stirred up your emotions and incite hate towards others. You never know where they obtain their news, they could also have created a 'foreigner' account and tricked you to do an online witch hunt, bomb emails to the 'foreigner' employer and the ministries/ ministers causing unnecessary disturbances & inconveniences. Then the 'foreigner' mysteriously disappeared.
Common sense: Why don't they conduct their own investigation instead of having the public to do that, right?
Why allow yourself to fall in their trap and be their victim? If you want a real ALTERNATIVE Media, I can recommend The Online Citizen, I can assure you that their Chief editor Kumaran Pillai & team moderates the website/ facebook page well. You may also like publichousesg by Andrew Loh & team or New Asia Republic ran by Donaldson Tan. You may even shift to TR Emeritus ran by KojakBT.
Please join in the boycott The Temasek Review, The Temasek Times and Temasek Review by 'Unlike' their pages and you may also like to report them as troublemakers to Facebook Inc for the Facebook Admins to close/ban their accounts. Below is how u can report them.
Let's do the right thing today!
Respects,
Little Fish
Sgc Ommoner (part 1): Apart from being flattered by the credit, let me state my stand on this issue categorically.
ReplyDeleteI think whether or not The Temasek Times and The Temasek Review facebook page are 'fakes' is not more important than what I and discerning others want to achieve, and that is to advance a discourse for change in Singapore. We want to see change taking place, whether it is the money-minded mentality of the PAP, the ultra-liberal immigration policy, etc., and the last thing we want is to have sabotages. That explains why we are angry at the MSM and other guilty parties trying to "lump us together" as a "social media" as a whole for being "xenophobic", which in most instances, we are not. (I think even the Temasek Times would not say they are xenophobic, just fighting causes; to me, it is media like STOMP that are really a bit to the xenophobic side with their "provocative" titles and headings, and also since they have no anti-PAP-policy agendas)
Secondly, we are upset because of the misrepresentation by The Temasek Review and The Temasek Times, as the "successor" of the old 'Temasek Review (Emeritus)', which got into legal tussles with none other than Temasek Holdings. And we are more upset by the MSM and other parties assisting in this misrepresentation and by their failure to distinguish to readers and viewers between the two (or more). It would be very unfair for the 'real' incarnation of TR(E), which is TR Emeritus (tremeritus.com), for accusations against the "other pages/sites" to be levelled against it. The name and goodwill of the 'Temasek Review (Emeritus)' of late would also be tarnished.
In appreciation of what TRE has done for the political discourse of Singapore, we are particularly upset.
Having said that, while I had called for "boycotting" of the said "other pages/sites", I do respect people who choose to continue reading from them. It is a personal choice, and if you feel that what they write there resonates with what you think and believe in, by all means. Even I might drop by once in a while when they have some "hot news" yet to be shared by other channels. But I would strongly scrutinize and discern, especially when they start giving support for Desmond Choo/PAP. But they are entitled to their view, and I respect that. As one commentator said: "TR is more anti WP than anti PAP. It's the fault of NSP, SPP, SDP, and TJS for not contesting in HG. If there is a 3rd candidate, TR would put it's full weight on the 3rd choice. Between WP & PAP, TR decided it hate WP more." (Jason Sing) I respect their view, if that is really their view; they are fully entitled to it, and might even have a point there. You can call them stupid or whatever, but they are entitled to their stand/opinion. (I am, of course, more against parties who suppress views and opinions; but freedom also has to meet with scrutiny) What I would be against is misrepresentation, as mentioned earlier, that people who subscribe to "The Temasek Review" think that it is the "successor" of the old TRE.
Thirdly, what I primarily want to achieve in asking for the "boycott", or more accurately, the DISCERNING between TRE and "the others", is reconciliation, instead of conflict. What I do not want is people getting misled, confused and "distracted" from the main cause that I have earlier mentioned, whether deliberately or otherwise.
Sgc Ommoner (part 2): Lastly, I would like to state that as far as present, what we say about The Temasek Review/Times as being "operated by moles", etc. are all speculations which we have reason to believe in, however much we do not possess concrete evidence to prove. That is why I am asking readers to be cautious and discerning, and not to trust/ believe everything they see on the surface. We should know how resourceful the real "moles" are. Who knows, maybe TT is not operated by moles, but very loyal supporters for an alternative government for Singapore? But we do have the right to speculate, discern and decide for ourselves, what we want to read and support.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day.
